Surveys in the Ligurian Sea

Surveys in the open sea for monitoring the presence and distribution of the 8 species in the Pelagos Sanctuary.

Our surveys in the open sea are mostly finalized to monitoring the presence and distribution of the 8 species in the Pelagos Sanctuary, Sperm whale, Typhoon, Bottlenose dolphin, Stenella, Grampo, Globicephalus and common dolphin), some of them classified as ENDANGERED by the Red List IUCN and others even DATA DEFICIENT, due to the lack of available data.

Scientific research and the resulting results are an integral part of the activities of the Menkab Association. Each survey corresponds to a navigation card in which sighting data, environmental conditions and types of animals encountered are marked.

This allows the team to create an annual report able to represent the types of sightings and the work done

Ogni avvistamento viene arricchito da un set fotografico, che permette la foto identificazione degli animali, strumento utile non solo per lo studio della popolazione dei mammiferi marini, ma anche per lo scambio di informazioni con il mondo scientifico locale e internazionale.

The Association offers every year the possibility to small organized groups to take part in monitoring and research activities, climbing on board the raft to live a unique experience in contact with researchers and documentary filmmakers.
